As the year begins to slow down after the heat and activity of summer,
let’s prepare to welcome the cool wondrous days of autumn and the white chill of winter.
Time to get centered and resume or start up a regular yoga routine.
Whether you’re a beginner, or just looking to improve your downward facing dog, check out some of the options available here in West Michigan. Namaste.

HATHA YOGA
Hatha Yoga is a good choice for beginners. The most popular form of yoga in the West, Hatha uses breathing exercises (pranayama), physical poses (asanas) and meditation to achieve its rejuvenating results. Hatha classes are generally gentle, slow-paced and relaxing.

Sometimes known as Hot Yoga, a Bikram yoga routine is generally 90 minutes long and involves a set of 26 postures, as well as some breathing exercises. It is advisable to consult a physician before taking a Bikram class.

IYENGAR YOGA
A form of Hatha Yoga, Iyengar uses props such as blocks, straps, chairs and blankets to help maintain perfect physical alignment. Although props are now used in other forms of yoga, founder B.K.S. Iyengar was the first to include them in a yoga routine. Poses are held for extended periods of time in order to get the body aligned. Not as strenuous as Power Yoga, Iyengar does however built strength and flexibility. A good choice for those who are not physically fit.
