8Muskegon Lake Polar Bear Plunge, Fricano’s Muskegon Lake, 1050 W. Western Avenue, Muskegon. Participants who raise $75 for the Special Olympics will plunge into the freezing lake. The Plunge begins at 2pm. Prizes and free t-shirts.. Those who do not want to plunge can instead collect money to attend the after-party at Fricano’s.

9"The Making of a Musical" by Alice Gambel - 7:00 p.m. at Arts Council of White Lake, 8695 Ferry St. Montague. Tickets are $5. Theater director and playwright Alice L. Gambel will present an overview of what goes into the making of the American Musical during a 90 minute lecture/performance at the Nuveen Community Center for the Arts. She will provide insight as to why some musicals work and others fail. By becoming more familiar with the process of creating a musical, discovering how a song’s style can set a mood, understanding the importance of marrying melody and lyrics, and realizing how the story can make or break it, she hopes that you will enjoy and appreciate your musical theatre experience more.

Ludwig van Beethoven and Alexander Wheelock Thayer were two men inspired by passion, their work forever joined in history. Bob will speak of Beethoven’s life and how the New Englander Thayer, driven by the search for the truth, wrote the definitive biography of Beethoven.
